Know What to Expect

Refractive surgery has helped millions see more clearly, but it’s important to understand what it can and can’t do. Many patients experience 20/20 vision. However:

  • You may still need reading glasses, especially if you’re over 40, due to presbyopia
  • Additional treatments may be required in some cases

Am I a Candidate for Laser Eye Surgery?

Laser eye surgery isn’t one-size-fits-all. During your pre-operative visit with us, we’ll discuss your health, vision needs, and lifestyle goals to help determine whether LASIK, PRK, or another surgical option is right for you.

You may be a good candidate for LASIK or PRK if:

  • You’re over 18, and your prescription is stable
  • Your eyes are generally healthy and free from disease
  • You have a refractive error such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism
  • You’re not currently pregnant or nursing

What to Expect at Your Appointment

During your visit, we’ll:

  • Assess your corneal shape and thickness
  • Measure your prescription and visual needs
  • Use imaging to examine your ocular health
  • Discuss your medical history and vision goals
  • Answer all your questions

Your Surgical Options

We work closely with your surgical team to provide co-management for the following procedures:

  • LASIK reshapes the cornea using a laser to correct refractive errors, offering fast recovery and reduced dependence on glasses or contacts. Most people return to normal activities within a day or two.
  • PRK is ideal for patients with thinner corneas or other concerns that make LASIK less suitable. It offers similar vision correction benefits, with a slightly longer recovery period.
  • Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) replaces the eye’s natural lens with an artificial lens to correct high prescriptions or presbyopia, providing clear vision and reducing dependence on glasses.
